Child Protection in the Umhlali Project

Goal
To improve the extent and quality of child protection response services to child victims of violence.

Components
  1. Implementation of the online child victimisation reporting and referral system (ICT platform)
  2. Promotion of the online child victimisation reporting and referral system
  3. Creation and distribution of a local resource directory for child-related services to service providers, schools and other relevant community-based organisations and structures
  4. Capacity building  for service providers and schools
  5. Creation of a child protection case management system / surveillance system

Outcomes of Components
  1. Increased number of children receiving child protection services
  2. An online child referral system is developed and is used by children
  3. Children report victimisation through the correct channels
  4. Children give input into identifying:
    1. Child protection services
    2. Child safety issues in the community
    3. Child access to services
  5. An increase in children’s awareness of the services available to them and how to access these services
  6. Increased reporting of child abuse, violence and neglect
