AUDIT Tool (WHO)
Substance abuse forms one component of the Umhlali project. As part of our intervention, the Umhlali Project is making use of the World Health Organisation’s Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Our project has prioritized hazardous alcohol consumption as an area that requires attention. The AUDIT acts as a screening tool as well as a brief intervention, when used correctly. It is cost-effective to implement and simple to train people on. The AUDIT tool has been the subject of a number of research studies and has been found to be effective in a variety of different cultural contexts.
This tool is in the public domain. Below are the WHO documents that support the use of the AUDIT, as well as training materials on the AUDIT developed by CJCP.
